Texas Christian University is represented by the TCU Horned Frogs college football team and the Texas Longhorns college basketball team. In the 1977 / 78 season the Horned Frogs recorded a record of 5 - 18, but made it to the second round of the C - USA tournament. The following year, in 2003, they recorded their best record ever, 20-11, and the best regular-season record in school history in 2004-05. Sue Ann Sandusky recorded her 1,000th career victory on the women's basketball team and the team also became the first female team to win a national championship in 2010. From 1977-78 to '26, it was the most successful women's team in program history, with a record of 26-5.

In 2003 and 2005, the TCU Harriers sent runners to the C-USA championships in the men's and women's 3,000-meter races.

In the 2000-01 season, the Horned Frogs won their first WAC title and their first conference championship in the Wac tournament. Baylor won its first ever NCAA tournament against TCU, which Kim Mulkey had stepped in for as assistant coach under Bill Brock, and won 72-71 in front of a sold-out crowd of 7,000 fans at Toyota Center in Fort Worth, Texas, on January 26, 2000. Baylor made it to the Final Four for the second time in the 2001-02 season and the 2002-03 season (the first two years of the new era of TCU basketball).

Jane and Justin Field House is home to the Texas Longhorn Frog and Lady Frog Camp, one of the largest animal camps in the state. The camp is located on the campus of the College of Science and Engineering at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, and offers a variety of activities for students, faculty and staff, as well as students from around the country and around the world. It is also the site of a number of special events, including the annual Texas Horned Frog Festival, a summer camp for Texas students.

The horned frog's mascot is embraced by students, faculty, staff, alumni and faculty from across the state of Texas. Some evening students wear frog costumes with horns on campus, dispelling the myth that all human mascots are warm and cuddly.
